The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign hosted an event for ARCS Foundation Illinois Chapter on Saturday, May 6, 2023.  Members gathered at the Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology for an interactive presentation by Dr. Nadya Mason, Director of the Beckman Institute and the Rosalyn Sussman Yalow Professor of Physics at UIUC. Dr. Mason spoke of her own journey as a scholar and woman to an enthusiastic audience full of questions. After lunch, current UIUC ARCS Scholar Jason Karakehian spoke of his research in plant biology; his work will revise the official classification of fungi with new work on the genera Propolis.  Finally, ARCS Illinois Board Member and Scholar Alumna Dr. Jessica Saw led the group to the National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA), where everyone put on their 3-D glasses in order to experience the immersive visualizations of the cosmos developed by NCSA’sAdvanced Visualization Laboratory
