ARCS Illinois Luncheon

Join us for lunch to hear Scott Mackey, ARCS Scholar from the University of Chicago, give a presentation on "Astrophysics on Ice: My Adventures with NASA in Antarctica"

We are delighted to host a luncheon that will feature a talk by one of our current ARCS Scholars!

Scott Mackey is a PhD candidate in Physics at the University of Chicago and is one of The Brinson Foundation ARCS Scholars for 2025-2026.  Scott is part of the research team for the Payload for Ultrahigh Energy Observations (PUEO), a NASA Long Duration Balloon mission that seeks radio signals from ultrahigh-energy astrophysical neutrinos to discover the sources of the highest energy particles in the Universe. PUEO flew over Antarctica from December 19, 2025 through January 12, 2026.

Our program schedule is:

11:30am - 12:00pm:  Gather and socialize

12:00pm:  Luncheon served

12:40pm - 1:15pm: Scott Mackey presentation, "Astrophysics on Ice: My Adventures with NASA in Antarctica"

1:15pm - 1:30pm: ARCS Update by Pat Anderson, ARCS Foundation Illinois Chapter Co-President
